Navigating Deaf Associations in T&T

Good Morning

I've been focusing on learning Sign language and also about deaf culture. I also really want to focus on what initiative our country has put in place to make sure that deaf people are included and also whether these initiatives are actually implemented or are just on paper. So far in my research it seems that we are failing miserably in this aspect, I have been trying to reach DRETCHI via phone for over a week now and only got someone on the phone this morning and I was unable to secure an interview with the coordinator but I was promised a return call, if that does not materialize I will have to chance turning up at their office and hope someone will be able to talk to me. My online research on DRETCHI did not leave me impressed or hopeful of getting much information from them. On most review sites they only managed to get one star. The complaints bordered from faulty products, long waits for appointments, unprofessional staff and unanswered calls which I myself can attest to. I shudder to think what a parent who has now discovered that their child is deaf has to go through.

I have managed to secure an interview and tour of the Cascade school for the deaf but I could not be accommodated until the 21st of April. I will not be able to video record the kids but I can take photos of the accommodations because the school has boarders and also of the rest of the facilities and will get vital information about the early education that deaf children receive.
